How to compare betting sites — the way we do
You do not need a spreadsheet to compare sportsbooks well, but a little structure helps. Here is the checklist we run on every product, written so you can use it yourself.
Betting sites tend to compete loudly on the same few things — sign-up offers, big market counts, slick graphics. The differences that matter once you are actually betting are quieter. These are the ones worth your attention.
1. Start with the markets you actually bet
A huge market count looks impressive but means little if the operator is thin on the leagues or sports you follow. Look past the headline number and check depth on the fixtures you would really back.
2. Read the price, not just the promo
Front-page offers fade fast; everyday pricing is what you live with. Compare a few like-for-like selections and check you can switch between fractional and decimal odds without digging through menus.
3. Try it on your phone
Most betting happens on a handset, so a clean coupon on desktop is only half the story. See how quickly you can build and confirm a slip on mobile, and whether the bet slip stays put as you scroll.
4. Check the builder and multiples
If you like same-game bets or accumulators, test how clearly the builder prices each leg and how multiples settle. A tidy builder can matter more day to day than an exotic market you will never use.
5. Look at payments before you deposit
Confirm the deposit and withdrawal methods you prefer are supported, and expect identity verification before a first withdrawal. Reasonable processing times matter more than flashy banner claims.
6. Read the terms while you are calm
Settlement rules, market voids and offer conditions are far easier to take in before you have a bet running. If an operator hides this away or writes it confusingly, treat that as information in itself.
7. Find the safer gambling tools
Deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion should be easy to locate. An operator that surfaces these clearly is one that takes player protection seriously.
One thing to keep in mind.No site wins on every front. The point of comparing is to find the product that fits how you bet — not to find a mythical “best” that beats everything. And no comparison, ours included, can promise value, winnings or outcomes.
How this feeds our reviews
We apply exactly these checks to every product on the desk and turn them into an editorial score out of five. The full method, and the limits of those scores, are set out in our editorial review policy. When you are ready, the live comparison puts the current selection side by side.
